YES on Commuter Benefits

Support the Air District Board's Climate Action

On Wednesday, March 19 the Bay Area Air Quality Management District Board, in partnership with the Metropilitan Transportation Commission (MTC) is poised to approve a Bay Area Commuter Benefits Program (Regulation 14 Rule 1) requiring employers to offer one of four commute benefit options to employees. GHG emissions will be reduced as fewer people drive alone to work.

The Rule will apply to businesses that employ 50 or more people in the Bay Area for 30 hours a week or more. 10,000 Bay Area employers (60%) have 50 or more employees. Transportation accounts for 38% of regional GHG emissions. 53% of transportation emissions result from commuting. 68% of commute emissions result from single occupant driving. Estimated GHG emission reductions from the Rule as proposed are 12,714 Megatons in 2015, growing to 47,957 Megatons per year by 3035. This rule is a great start.

Sign our THANK YOU note for local agency Climate Action

THANK YOU Bay Area Air Quality Management District Board, Metropolitan Transportation Commission, and staff from both agencies for bringing a Bay Area Commuter Benefits Program up for a vote at the Air District on March 19, 2014. This is a great step forward for the Bay Area to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and reduce traffic congestion and the stress it adds to our lives.

We applaud your action and hope for a unanimous YES VOTE.
