San Francisco's retirement fund has about $1 billion invested in the 200 fossil fuel companies that hold the majority of the world's coal, oil and gas reserves. That means that city money is providing moral and economic support to companies standing in the way of climate solutions.
Our city shouldn’t continue to invest in companies that are causing the climate crisis. Supervisor John Avalos has introduced a resolution urging the retirement board to divest that money and to reinvest in sustainable alternatives: clean energy, local energy retrofits, and more.
On Wednesday, April 10th, the Board of Supervisors will host its first public hearing on divestment and we'll be there in force!
We've got to show them how many of us support making San Francisco's pension fund fossil free! Please join us at the hearing, and tell your friends!
And don't forget to sign our petition here!
