I’m thinking if the average consumer could purchase inexpensively a device that could scrub carbon from the atmosphere, then, crowdsource-style, citizens could start capturing carbon large-scale thereby perhaps giving humanity more time to deal with the potentially catastrophic problem of climate change. This approach works to find new planets ( http://www.cnn.com/2012/10/16/us/space-planet-four-suns/index.html ) and to find important information buried within reams of documents ( http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/mps-expenses ).

The question is whether such devices can be made rapidly in large quantities. What materials does their manufacture require? Is any part of their technology theoretical at this point? What bureaucratic issues, if any, stand in their way?
