This July is the second annual Stop Oil Trains Week of Action that commemorates the second anniversary of the tragic Lac-Mégantic, Quebec, oil train catastrophe that killed 47 people. Saturday, July 11th, communities across California will stand up to stop oil trains - and the action in Richmond will serve as a flagship event for the Bay Area. Join us at this planning meeting to organize the event.
So far, we plan to gather at Richmond BART and march to the Kinder Morgan oil train terminal on South Garrard Blvd. Along the way, the march will stop at a few neighborhoods/community spots in the oil train blast zone to highlight community voices and community solutions.
The march will culminate with a mass family-friendly rally outside the Kinder Morgan oil train facility, that will include:
- Speakers from Richmond and other East Bay refinery towns
- Art, music, dance
- Stations highlighting community solutions
