Fossil Fuel Resistance

"Digging stuff up and lighting it on fire is the energy of the past."

                                ~Bill McKibben, Daily Kos, 5/11/15

Fossil Fuel Resistance works for a rapid and just transition away from all fossil fuel infrastructure. We have the technology and natural resources we need to switch to clean energy now. The only obstacle is the industry that is profiting from the energy of the past. Fossil Fuel Resistance fights the expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure by working against the drilling, transporting, refining, and exporting of fossil fuels.

Right now, with arrests of reporters on public land to keep us from hearing and seeing the tanks and assault rifles and pepper spray being used to stop the peaceful protection actions at Standing Rock in North Dakota and Iowa, it is so important that we do not get distracted completely by the election.  There are quick things you can do to make a big difference.  Below is a list of numbers to call and what you could say.  Please take the time to make the calls.  At the Bioneers many native Americans came toDefendtheSacred2.jpg ask for more people to come to the site as a militarized police force ramps up arrests, now on riot charges, of peaceful demonstrators.  Please watch any of the reports on Democracy Now to get a sense of what is happening.  127 arrested on Saturday alone.

For the peaceful protectors. Please call:  Morton County Sheriff

Asked to be transferred to their North Dakota office and leave a message that by speeding up the building to 7 day a week and long hour work as well as their hiring of security forces with attack dogs and unprovoked use of pepper spray and now demanding arrests of reporters is energizing a nation against their project.

Ask where is the Dept. of Justice on the issues of sovereign nations' rights and why can't there be an executive order.  Tell them you are urging every Democrat to vote for Jill Stein if you want to because of the failures of the Democratic Party leadership on keeping it in the ground.

Arresting reporters on public land is illegal and they need to get the Sherriff Dept to stop by filing charges against them.  The Dept of Justice will step in to stop them soon.

After a 2-year struggle, the Oakland City Council passed an ordinance banning coal in Oakland!

Refinery Corridor

  • The residents of Benicia defeated Big Oil! Benicia City Council voted unanimously to deny Valero's application to build a crude-by-rail terminal. Thanks to those who came out to support.
  • We've been to San Luis Obispo to support residents in their fight against Phillips 66' proposed rail spur which would send tar sands through the Bay Area.
  • We're working to get the Air District to revoke Kinder Morgan's permit to bring Bakken crude to the Bay Area through its terminal in Richmond

Stop Fracking

Alameda County banned fracking! Now we're working to support that ban fracking initiative in Monterey County!

Air District Stationary Source Committee

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is charged with protecting air quality for the nine-county Bay Area. So far, they have green-lit fossil fuel expansion projects. Area residents and community organizations worked to get the board to pass a resolution in the fall of 2014 calling for a 20% reduction in Bay Area refinery emissions. Now we are working in coalition with other community groups to pass first-of-their kind refinery rules to put numeric caps on emissions.
