350 Bay Area Bay Climate Action Plan campaigners will read aloud and formally present a Resolution for deep cuts in carbon emissions that we want the Air District Board to adopt.
The Climate Committee can recommend Action to the full Air District Board on issues relevant to 350 Bay Area Campaigns.
NOTE MEETING TIME CHANGED - WILL START at 10:00 am SPECIAL EVENT:
Bay Climate Action Plan - 350 Bay Area's BayCAP Campaign has submitted a Proposed Resolution for the Air Board to make a commitment to achieve deep cuts in Bay Area greenhouse gas emissions. Take a look. It's a powerful document.
BayCAP Campaign team members will formally present the Resolution and read it aloud at the meeting. Come lend your support!
New! Keystone XL Pipeline - Included in the Agenda will be a discussion (and possible vote to forward a recommendation to the full Board) of a draft Resolution opposing the Keystone XL Pipeline.
The Meeting Agenda is available here:
The Air District's work impacts other climate campaigns too:
No Tar Sands - In March the Air District's Climate Committee Chair, John Avalos, asked District staff to draft a Resolution opposing the Keystone XL Pipeline. What is the status of this request?
Chevron Watch and No Tar Sands - The Air District has presented a draft Refinery Emissions Tracking Rule. Should the Climate Protection Committee ask District staff to propose aggressive action to reduce refinery GHG emissions via this Rule? How does the Air District account for GHG emissions from different sources of oil? Can the Air District establish standards that would not allow dirty tar sands oil to be processed in the Bay Area?
Stop Fracking - The Air District takes positions on legislation that affects air quality (including climate). Should the Climate Committee recommend that the Air District support AB 1301 to put a moratorium on fracking?
Divestment - Berkeley and San Francisco have endorsed divestment from fossil fuels. Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates and San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee both sit on the Air District Board. Should the Climate Committee recommend that the Air District vote to support PERS divestment from fossil fuels?
The Air District is the only regional Bay Area agency with the authority and the mandate to directly regulate greenhouse gases. Policy initiatives start in the Air District's Climate Protection Committee.
Climate advocates make a difference by showing up and letting elected representatives on the Air District Board know what we want!
