|Advocate for a cap on Bay Area refinery GHG emissions and faster, stronger action to reduce GHGs, particulate matter and toxics, for the sake of protecting both the climate and public health.|
California Air Resources Board (CARB) staff have told advocates that CARB's AB 32 regulations allow actual refinery GHG emissions to increase. This is unacceptable.
Ending reliance on combustion for heat and power is the primary path to achieving reductions in GHGs, toxics and particulate matter (responsible for about 1,700 premature deaths per year in the Bay Area).
The Air District's Climate Action Work Program needs to clarify that the first step in reducing Bay Area GHGs is a hard cap on emissions. The next step is to enact regulations that require clean technologies to replace combustion technologies.
Show up December 1at Climate Protection Committee meeting to press for faster, stronger action on GHGs in concert with action on particulate matter and toxics, for the sake of protecting both the climate and public health.
Present your comments and/or support others prepared to speak. If you can't come, contact Committee members directly:
