Your Air District Board will vote on a Resolution to Oppose the Keystone XL Pipeline this Wednesday, August 7.
The 22 members of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District's Board of Directors will vote on a Resolution Opposing the Keystone XL Pipeline this coming Wednesday, August 7.
We need to fill the room to show support for this action. RSVP if you can attend. Make sure to come early to sign in.
If you live in one of the nine Bay Area counties, these Board members represent YOU.
Call them Monday or Tuesday before the meeting (find numbers here) and ask them to vote Yes!
Quick talking points:
- Keystone will add up to 1.2 billion metric tons of carbon pollution to the atmosphere over the 50-year lifespan of the project.
- According to State Department and EPA estimates, carbon emissions resulting from the burning of Alberta tar sands are 81 percent higher than those from conventional oil on a well-to-tank basis.

I think people forget that air pollution is every where not just in the area they are drilling in or refining in. Pollution affects the air everywhere and we ALL have to breath it! How much healthier we would all be if we weren’t breathing fumes from petroleum.

I just called Supervisor Haggerty’s office to urge him to support the No Keystone XL pipeline resolution tomorrow. The woman who answered the phone sounded surprised I was calling in support of the resolution, which was worrisome, but said she would pass on the message to Supervisor Haggerty before the meeting. I think we need more calls.

I am coming and will be representing the Good Neighbor Steering Committee from Benicia, home of the Valero refinery. We are concerned here that Valero may start importing tar sands crude by rail to be refined, much to the detriment of our air quality and public health,.
