Air District Board Mtg 7/20

Come to the next hearing of the Air District Board on July 20th.  We are making progress with the Board of Directors on capping toxic emissions from Bay Area refineries.  On June 15, 20 members of 350 Bay Area joined our allies in successfully encouraging the Air District Board to include capping emissions as part of an Environmental Impact Report, which will lead to a new rule to reduce emissions.  If we can win a cap on emissions we will stop refineries ramping up production of dangerous Bakken and Tar Sands crude-by-rail for refining and export.  This fight is by no means over, as the District staff continue to do everything they can to oppose and block a cap.

Our efforts are now moving to encouraging City Councils and Boards of Supervisors around the Bay Area to pass Resolutions calling on the District Directors to cap emissions.  Both Richmond and Emeryville have already passed Resolutions and more Cities will soon follow.   If you are willing to be part of a team to approach City and County leaders, would like to see a sample resolution, or if you know any city council members, please contact Nan Parks at nan.parks@yahoo.com.
